The Work · Write-up

Composed slowly, with the patience the space deserves.

Commissioned by the Kayumanis Collection in the early months of 2024, this project documents the flagship Nusa Dua property through a quiet, editorial lens — avoiding the saturated heroics of conventional hospitality work in favour of something more patient, more specific. We lived on the property for five consecutive mornings, arriving each day forty-two minutes before civil twilight and staying through until the last slant of golden hour had exhausted itself against the thatched roofs.

The brief asked for three things: frame the architecture as the quiet protagonist, document the texture of the hand-finished Balinese stonework without cliché, and find the small, human moments that make a private villa feel like a home rather than a product. Our approach was to shoot only on fixed primes — 35mm, 50mm, 85mm — and to never use supplemental lighting. Every frame you see was shot with available light, graded against a single custom profile built specifically for the warm travertine and the pale teak finishes.

In total we delivered 1,482 selects from 28,400 RAW frames, a ratio roughly consistent with the studio's editorial workflow. The images are now in active use across the collection's global booking channels, print collateral, and a limited-run archival book that was given as a departure gift to every guest of the 2024 season.
